I received an e-mail today from S-Z member ChicoBrazil, telling me the saddest news that our friend and brother, Andrea "Dreamer' Rotolo, passed away last Monday.
Andrea had been suffering for years from a rare disease that I believe affected his liver and kidneys. He had started to make a comeback and as you might recall was posting here last year, looking forward to possibly purchasing a new KB, and playing music again.

Last year, when Lydia and I were in Rome, we were supposed to meet up with him again, but he wasn't feeling well enough at the time. I am so sorry we did not meet again.

He spent the last three months ill in Brazil, and suffered cardiac arrest, from which he did not recover.

During our first visit to Italy we had the pleasure of meeting and having dinner with Andrea. He is a person that you take to immediately due to his warmth and genuineness. Lydia and I will treasure those few ours we spent with him as he took us and Lydia's sister and her husband on an evening tour of Rome.
I am fortunate to have a CD of his playing KB.

I know some others here had the wonderful experience of meeting Andrea, and I am sure they feel his loss as deeply as I do.

Also, please keep Chico in your prayers for good health as well.

Here is one of the songs from Andrea ... May he be playing the most beautiful music with our Maker ...

I'm SO SAD! Andrea was one of my favorites here, as is Chico. At least two good friends were together when friendship was needed the most.

The beautiful Bossa tune is going in my treasured spot for the best, most meaningful music I have.

To all his loved ones: I sincerely share your pain and sense of loss.

Wow, that is sad news frown
I had the fortune to meet him on his trip to So Ca.
The nicest guy with some serious chops.
He will be truly missed.

Very sad news, Tony. I've known Andrea for more than a decade, and we frequently communicated via email. I hadn't heard from him for a few months, so I suspected he was having severe health issues again. He will be missed by every life he touched.

That is really sad news. I always called him "Doc" because he was an M.D. He was so talented and such a good person.

Tony,

Sorry to hear this bad news, even though I never met him a few years back we corresponded often. At the time he also shared that he was having health problems. It's great that you and Lydia did at least meet him on one visit to Rome.

May he RIP.

He still had a web site. Here's the link, but you may want to use caution I got many unwanted popup ads when I clicked the link.

I only had a few nice exchanges of posts with him, mostly about the dixie version of 'Midnight in Moscow' - but enough to be shocked and sad about this news. Whenever I hear or play that piece again, there will be a reference to his memory. RIP.
